Rapidly growing infrastructure demands for highly qualified competent Civil engineers. Considered as one of the oldest engineering disciplines, Civil Engineering involves planning, designing and executing infrastructural development works. The profession deals with a wide variety of tasks that envisages designing, supervision and construction activities of bridges, tunnels, buildings, airports, dams, water works, sewage systems, ports, etc. and offer a multitude of challenging career opportunities. With privatization, liberalization, and globalization the scope of Civil Engineering has enhanced many folds.
 
CAREER PROSPECTS
Civil engineering graduates in general have a wide scope with respect to their career planning. To name some, a structural consultant, project manager, entrepreneur, software professional, and armed service professional. Civil engineering graduates find their prominent places in all the major construction projects carried out by the state or central public works departments, Indian railways, armed forces along with construction companies like L&T ECC, Hindustan constructions, IVRCL, Simplex, etc.
Various NGOs working in environment and water sector seek services of Civil engineers as consultant at national and state level. They can join the Engineering and Administrative services through competitive examinations conducted by Union Public Service Commission and State Public Service Commission.
